Information for Overnight Patients of The Memorial

Admission

Your hospital admission will be arranged by your doctor who will inform you on what day you need to come to hospital.

Paediatric Patients

Please feel free to bring in your child's favourite food, there are microwave facilities in the ward.

If your child requires formula milk you will also need to bring this with you.

Please be aware that the Inpatient Childrens' Facility  may include a 4 bed shared area and we ask that you and your family be sensitive to the fasting requirements of other children.

You can go into the theatre with your child until they are asleep.

As a parent or carer, we would encourage you to remain with your child during their hospitalisation and you will be provided with a bed, meals and the use of the hospital's facilities during your child's stay.

Depending on circumstances, nursing mothers being admitted for surgery may have their baby stay with them, however mothers will need to arrange for a carer to assist with their baby's care during their stay. Baby's needs, bedding, clothing, nappies etc. are the responsibility of the parent.

Anaesthetic Assessment

Your surgeon will advise you of the arrangements to see your anaesthetist.

Accommodation

At the time of admission, your bed will have been allocated on the basis of clinical need and bed availability.

As The Memorial Hospital has a mix of private and shared rooms, it will not always be possible to provide you with a private room. The hospital reserves the right to allocate beds at its discretion.

Medication

Please bring with you any prescribed medication in their original packaging and give to the ward staff on admission. Your medication will be given to you by the nursing staff as ordered by your doctor.  Any unused medication will be returned to you on discharge.
